Fawlty towers? Be advised that this hotel is in Administration. Therefore the current service and quality reflects this. We spent Hogmany here and wish we hadn’t bothered, had we known of the administration issues we would not have booked. Food quality was sub-standard, the chef certainly has to work hard and served some good food considering the quality of product, no issues with the meals served. We waited 2 (YES 2) hours for breakfast on Hogmany as did several others, they had/have significant staffing issues, we were refunded the breakfast after much discussion. On that note the staff, although very pleasant are not experienced in hospitality and it added to what was a frustrating trip. Very basic / understanding of customer service lacking. Although the effort to a degree is there.
As for the rooms, well, I would say the suites are quite small but nice. We had to make our own beds but the towels were changed. The TV situation is a bit comical, we were given a Firestick after asking what the issues were and had to ask twice for WiFi codes. Our suite needed a paint and a bit of TLC, but when in administration this won’t happen. We also did not have a view but that’s not an issue. Only several of the 32 rooms have views we were told. No issues with parking. There are also EV charging points if that’s your thing.
It was all a bit of a comedy. We went with it and empathise with certain staff members. Good luck. But I doubt this place will survive with the current administrator in place. Wish I could have been more positive but it is how it is.

Very nice stay - lovely interiors and location. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t eat in the hotel. Air freshener smell is a bit strong for me.

Had a great stay. Everything was perfect and staff were friendly. Good customer service. Very comfy bed and the food was amazing. Please ignore some of the bad reviews. Try Dunalastair yourself and make that judgement. Thanks, will definitely be back.

Amazing hotel but appalling customer service. My wife and I booked lunch … when we turned up we were told by the receptionist that we couldn’t have it because the “staff were in a meeting”. This is as at a normal time (at noon) so we were shocked when the receptionist said that.
The place is gorgeous but the customer service is the worst I’ve experienced in years.

Excellent hotel. Great service. Rural and isolated location, but if you want quiet and remote, this is an ideal place. Everything form service to food to the coffee was wonderful.

Our experience at this hotel was certainly not to a 5 star standard. Whilst the overall aesthetic of the hotel is undeniably beautiful; we were let down by the extreme lack of customer service.
The female manager of the hotel made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome in every situation. There was not even one smile or greeting - just a stern glare whenever we walked past. I also think gossiping and discussing hotel issues with your team in front of guests is extremely unprofessional and should be done behind closed doors. Unfortunately, it seems as though this example is being passed onto some of the other staff who also made us feel like a total inconvenience. Just asking for our room to be cleaned (which should be done everyday without having to ask) seemed like we were asking for the impossible.
With the breakfast selection being very poor, it didn’t help that when we asked for some bread at breakfast, we were brought over a single 1/2 slice and when I asked for more, I was questioned as if I wasn’t allowed anymore. These are just a couple examples out of many that really spoiled the entire stay. However, I have to mention how the only members of staff who made me feel so welcome was Alex who obviously knew how to look after guests and make them feel valued. The two men at reception (didn’t get their names) were also so lovely and kind - as well as one of the housekeepers who was sent to our room at the end of the day was extremely lovely and never failed to smile and say hello to us whenever we saw him. I think it would be really useful to educate staff on local knowledge so they can advise tourists on what to do in the area.
I would never normally write reviews for hotels but in this instance, I felt absolutely compelled to.
Unless there is proper customer service training at this hotel, we won’t be returning unfortunately.

Surprisingly nice and lovely hotel ! We stayed a few nights and had excellent sleep quality. Breakfast is good unlike others said and it’s worth to spend extra for the cooked breakfast option. Small service issues but I guess can’t expect city service for this location. Overall recommended and thanks to the team 👍oh and this review is not paid or fabricated as some reviews previously suggest. All the negative comments perhaps are not aware of general service and food issues in the highlands and expect city speed and service…

Very mixed opinions on this hotel,
We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who after taking a £200 deposit for any additional items we may charge to the room , which is not normal, we were shown our room.
Room was pokey and very humid as there is no Aircon. Everything felt crammed in. It was clean. TV only worked online and they have a hotel netflicks account. Shower is no more than a dribble.
Breakfast was continental only and it was pretty basic, however hot food was available at £15 extra. One of the days some american tourists came in just for a cappuccino/latte , they were shown to a table . However the manager came over and informed them they only do filter in a morning and sent them packing, they were polite and offered to pay. She really needed some business/ customer service skills.
Meals are nice but overpriced. Tables outside were dirty and not serviced often.
Parking can be hard to find when it's fully booked.
Summary it's nice but overpriced more of an inner city travelodge feel than a country side boutique hotel
Won't stay again.

This is not a 5 star hotel. The setting is undeniably great, right in the centre of Kinloch Rannoch. The fixtures, fittings, decor, napkins and scent throughout were nice. But everything else? Well below standard.
When we arrived, the receptionist was pleasant, directing us to the restaurant and courtyard area for our cream tea. However when we got there, we were greeted by a very standoff-ish front of house manager. We had clearly interrupted her doing some work on her laptop; work being done in the restaurant itself. She came across as very defensive about whether we’d made a booking for our cream tea (which we had, email confirmation provided). Everything felt like we were a massive inconvenience being there.
Aside from nobody knowing that we’d made a booking, we were made to feel like asking for our cream tea was asking for the impossible. “Please give me 5 minutes”, from the manager, huffing off to the kitchen to check if the whole thing was going to work. When finally bringing the cream tea, the waiter didn’t know which scones he’d served, and when asking for a plain one instead of both fruit ones, the manager returned with “oh, are the fruit ones not nice?”. The menu offered a selection of both.
On top of all this, the “clotted cream” was in fact cream cheese… and the manager had to take it back to the kitchen. Turned out to be a “trainee chef’s mistake”.
The music in the courtyard was also quite loud — not overbearingly so, but it would be too loud for some. It also kept cutting off intermittently. In the courtyard, the main view out between the buildings was nice, but it was blocked with an unattractive industrial-sized waste bin.
It’s clear to see someone has spent a lot of money refurbishing the hotel. It does look impressive inside and out, but the customer service aspect is severely lacking. Unless you’re desperate to try it, I wouldn’t recommend it in it’s current state.

Such an amazing hotel. Staff are very accommodating and friendly! Food served is very nice and situated in a very lovely quiet location!
A fair trek from any main roads, but very worth the money if you are looking for a romantic or family weekend away.

Nice rooms but not properly equipped for the number of guest, missing towels and toiletries. I was told they would hold a package sent for me but it was returned to sender before i arrived and I was given the run around. Food was delicious but I was rushed to order the main course to keep the kitchen staff on schedule even though the place was empty and I was eating early. Overall good stay but if they are going to market themselves as a high end hotel they have some work to do.

Cuisine pas frais du tout, beaucoup d'erreur entre la carte et l'assiette! La phrase typique "sorry we run out of ..."
Service lent et je pense sur exploité... Zero activités

The bed was amazing, rooms lovely, the hotel is very peaceful, Staff don’t have much grasp of the English language, charges are hidden, breakfast ok, the bar is way over priced, and there’s no atmosphere. A 5 star hotel doesn’t have a stuffed toy to hold the front door shut nor does it hide £200 charges to ‘open the bar and restaurant for the evening’ a 5 star hotel doesn’t have a car park full of cigarette ends and certainly doesn’t advertise itself as ‘local’ when not one member of staff is local and none of its food is locally sourced.
Spend an extra couple of quid and head along the road a wee bit.

It exceeded all expectations! The staff called ahead of time to ask if we wanted any dinner reservations and to make sure our food was ready for Iftar (breaking fast). They were so lovely! The service was on another level. The place felt like home. So warm. Aftab (lovely gentleman at reception) even got us our Suhoor ahead of time! The food wad divineeeee!! Looking forward to coming back here with family. Such a beautiful establishment and the surrounding area is so picturesque ♥️ Thank you for having us!

Went to Dunalastair for dinner as we were staying in Loch Rannoch hotel and their food was very poor.
Expected great food, partly due the price. Very disappointed.

On arrival never been to a hotel especially a 5 star where you are charged a £100 deposit pp. Lady on front desk was absolutely amazing didnt catch her name. Room was definitely showing neglect, water marks on ceiling and chipped furniture not what you expect for 5 star hotel. The tap in room also was faulty and couldn't be fixed during our stay although they did leave us bottled water, the shower pressure was terrible also they had maintenance in to fix but wasnt much better after that. Went down to have some drinks nothing on draught and bottles where expensive so ended up being recommended to go to hotel that was 5 to 10 minute walk along the road to which we did and was lovely there amazing selection of drinks and food etc. Ordered room service on 2nd night stay and have to say couldn't fault the food it was absolutely amazing. Breakfast was pricey also.

You are wise to be suspicious of reviews as some are fabricated. This one is not. We have the receipts and expenses to prove it. We were shown to a small room at the very end of the hotel with a view of a parking lot and adjacent building. Nothing of the "captivating views as standard" claimed in the brochure. The room had hair in the sink, stains on the carpet, crumbs and general disarray, and was well-worn. Not the calibre of a 5-Star hotel. We asked for second room, this one had been recently cleaned. Once in, we realized the carpet was wet with cleaning solution. The Desk Mgr slipped and almost fell in the room. We were told to wear slippers to avoid the wet. We asked for a third room. The hotel is virtually empty. This room was acceptable but by now, we were exasperated and tired. This process, full of confusion and missteps, had taken over 2 hours. We decided to leave the hotel the following morning and short-shift our two day booking. We wanted to go back to Glasgow and the Hilton where we had been treated royally. For dinner, the hotel offered us two glasses of wine as compensation for our inconvenience. The dinner was adequate but not what we expected of a celebrated chef. We discovered later that evening that they had no intention of refunding us for the second night. They intended to keep the full cost of the two-night booking despite our departure after only one night. We disputed but they refused to relent. We asked Expedia to intervene. To Expedia's credit, they did and were told the same thing. NO REFUND. This entire experience has left shaken, exploited, and questioning the 5-Star rating. We wish you a better experience than we had. Scotland is a beautiful country.

Lovely place. Staff very attentive helpful and friendly. And cant do too much for you.The room was cosy warm as it was minus 3 outside. Wifi uber quick.
The food was very good quality indeed. I presume it was freshly cooked as it took some time to arrive. Couple of small things though. Bar prices were rather expensive . Sounds crazy but had it been less expensive we would have probably spent more with more drinks. Breakfast was buffet continental with hot cost option. Scottish was very expensive. There were 4 tables occupied and we were the only hot breakfast. Way too expensive I think they need to review this as it is a real downer. I know ir is a 5 star boutique hotel but Gleneagles do not charge extra when on B&B rate.
Won't put me off going back as it was great. We may consider taking wine and snacks for the room. Not our style as we like the social aspect of the bar before dinner. I am just posting it as I see it.

Rooms well designed and decorated. However show signs of use and damage.
Bathroom large, wc and sink good , bath /shower need updating.
Kitchenette good fridge, microwave coffee machine and kettle.
Bed and linen good 👍
Wifi/ TV etc good
Staff friendly and helpful. However had it been made clear on the limited dinning options we would not have booked!
Ridiculous check in (4pm) and check out times (10am) so you only have the room for 18hrs max
Doesn't have any views from the rooms.

Reception staff were lovely and attentive. Room was relatively basic, but okay - didn’t feel 5 star but was certainly pleasant enough. My main issue was with breakfast: £20 surcharge for hot food, which is ridiculously steep in the highlands. This wouldn’t have been so bad had I received a full breakfast, however the quantities were on the lighter side, with only 1 sausage, 1 slice of bacon and half a slice of black pudding.
An affordable stay in a beautiful part of the country, but my recommendation is to skip the hot breakfast option.
